Graffiti are images or lettering scratched, scrawled, painted, or marked in any manner on property. Each gang has its unique symbols and cryptic types of writing. It is used as a form of communication to publicize a gang’s power, status, and territory. Gang members use graffiti to send messages to other gangs using codes with common meanings, mark their territory or turf, declare their allegiance to the gang, advertise a gang’s status or power, and to challenge rivals. Graffiti that is drawn upside down or crossed out is generally a 'put down' or threat to a rival gang or person. Some gangs will even use graffiti as 'Death warrants' towards police officers.

Graffiti, by legal definition, is vandalism. It is the unauthorized application of markings on someone else’s property, i.e., WITHOUT PERMISSION.

The intent of gang graffiti is to glorify the gang. Gang graffiti is also meant to create a sense of intimidation and may increase the sense of fear within a neighborhood. There is an inherent violence associated with gang graffiti. A neighborhood marked with gang graffiti is a neighborhood threatened by crime and violence associated with gang activity, such as drive-by attacks.

Entrance at Votaw Graffiti

Hi Everybody,
Well the gang has hit our entrance at Votaw and Bent Oak again. I have referred it to the Orange County Gang Enforcement. To bad we could not catch them doing this, and make them clean it up, after they deal with the Sheriffs Office..... Dave

Energy Audits

If you use electricity in your home — and who doesn't? — there's a telephone solicitor who has your number.

Some want to save you money, while others push the "green" theme of helping the environment.

The calls vary and apparently aren't even from the same source, but right now their target is clearly Central Florida.

Progress Energy and Florida Power & Light have reported increased calls recently from Central Florida customers questioning or complaining about telephone solicitations.

The calls, offering "energy audits," often come from people claiming to represent the utilities or independent contractors.

In some cases the audits come with a cost, and in almost all cases, they are intended to sell products or services.

Or, worse, the call could be an attempt by a crook to gain entry to a home while posing as a power-company worker, warns Suzanne Grant, a spokeswoman for Progress Energy.

FYI -
A neighbor on Lost Pine called this morning and reported a window screen had been removed from their house and it looked like someone may have tried to break into their house. It happened over the evening hours.
